FAMCare Workflow

FAMCare WorkflowThe Visions Server workflow processor, called the "Action Queue", is a SQL based method to validate data and take action based on business rules that may be unique to an organization.

An administrator with a basic knowledge of the SQL language and familiarity with the data elements of a FAMCare installation can:

  • Validate data elements on a form prior to a record being saved.  The Action SQL can reference any other tables and generate customized warnings and error messages to the end user.

  • Trigger actions based on records being added, updated, or deleted.  Actions can include any Visions Server directive, including running UPDATE queries on various other records, Saving additional records (thus possibly triggering a chain of other Action Queue items), emailing various information as needed by the workflow, or even setting up schedules and tasks for future action.

  • Scheduled actions based on a time schedule.  Like regular trigger actions, any Visions Server directive can be used.  An example can be automated notifications once or multiple times per day, automated closeout of certain records, or any number of other actions that may be needed based on a schedule.

The Action Queue is sophisticated enough to process "waterfall" actions, meaning multiple triggers can be setup for a record, with "processing stopping" when certain criteria is met.

Action Queue records can be set up so they only run once per unique record, even if multiple updates are done to a record.  Or they can be setup to run any time a record is updated.

By combining Action Queue records, an infinite number of workflow processes can be accommodated to meet the exact needs for an organization.
